Energy absorbing circuits are used to suppress voltage spikes caused by circuit inductance when a switch, electrical or mechanical, is opened.
It should be used for all Shelly relays that reset when connecting induction loads such as fans, motors, rollers, or those that cause voltage spikes during turn-on.
The RC Snubber must be wired between the Output and Neutral of the circuit.
The RC Snubber is a component made up of a resistor (R) and a capacitor (C) connected in series. It effectively mitigates voltage spikes that can occur during switching of inductive loads by providing a short duration alternative current path around the switching device so that the inductive load is safely discharged. The RC Snubber can protect your Shelly device's sensitive components from voltage spikes and improve the overall performance and reliability of connected circuits.
Main applications:
The RC Snubber finds common applications with inductive loads, such as:
Fans
Refrigerators
Air conditioners
Washing machines
Dryers
Transformers
LED light drivers
Other appliances with electric motors
Compatibility
Connect RC Snubbers in parallel to inductive loads to be switched with Shelly devices. Connect the RC Snubber as close to the inductive load as possible.
